The Christmas story, by some Kiwi kids

posted by Dan Phillips

(Not too heavy today.)

May get a detail or two off, but it is awfully cute:

(Thanks, Julie)

Feliz Navidad, everyone. Hope you can exalt Christ the newborn king with fellow-believers this weekend, and wherever you are. Remember:
  • No Nativity, no Good Friday
  • No Good Friday, no Easter
  • No  Nativity, Good Friday and Easter, no salvation and no Gospel

Cute...very cute. It touches my heart to see children telling the actual Christmas story instead of talking about Santa Claus and what all kinds of gifts they want.

And a hearty amen to your comments regarding the Nativity and the implications of no Nativity.

Good to see gritty realism in the nativity story for a change. Very few have the guts to show the animal doo-doo or the glow-stick party :)

Merry Christmas to the Pyros and Pyro readers!

LOL, Terry - exactly!

@Robert. I saw this post before their were any comments, and I decided to wait to watch the video until the commenters showed up. If I read the word "adorable" or "cute" I would know to leave it alone.

First word out of the gate...

Thanks, dude!

Ebeneeeeeeeeeser Chantry!

Hey, I'm no Ebenezer. We celebrate Christmas - we just do so in our own way.

Our own way is, we buy a tree, decorate it, and then whichever of our kids is youngest that year knocks it over. If the youngest is too young, perhaps the cat fills in for a year. We buy presents for all our family and make big plans to be with them. Then, on whichever morning the festivities are set to begin (that's today this year) one of my kids always comes through with the stomach flu and puts a halt to everything. In the end, when there are church services I go alone because I have to preach and my wife sits at home with a bedraggled, ornament-less Christmas tree and tends to a bunch of sick kids.

NOT a Scrooge!

All right, then, you hate children. Or you'd at least WATCH the video, you curmudgeon.

Tom Chantry said...

Hate Children? No. Curmudgeon? Probably.

OH! What ADORABLE little children!

DJP said...

I think it's all that, without being treacly.

I know this is off-topic, but I've wanted to say this for a couple of days...

So Frank is going to be at a conference with Challies? Any chance he'll bring copies of your books along and ask him to maybe offer a review of them? Enquiring minds want to know...I want to know!(wonder if anybody remembers what this line is from)

Terry Rayburn said...

Oy sigh theh, bloke, did 'ee actually sigh "treacly"?

Gooooood mornin' and Merry Christmas to you all,

Yes, I know it isn't accurate in every detail (did I hear one of the narrators call Joseph "Jonah"?) but I liked it anyway.

Maybe it's because they say it all with a New Zealand accent.

And, Tom, have you been to our house at Christmas? I think you may be a long-lost relative ;D

Julie

He's "long-lost," all right. Did you know Chantry hates kids?

Let me get this out in the open before someone asks: Dan did not admonish me about hating kids in private over a cup of coffee before he accused me in public.

So there.

DJP said...

I figured, since you hate kids, you must hate coffee, too.

OK, now I'm being slandered!

I thought everyone on this blog was a curmudgeon? The Spirit is obviously stifled here, evolution isn't given a place at the table, sex isn't explicit, and gutter language can't be found in a single post. Curmudgeons all of you!

Second, where is Kerry Allen with the apropos Spurgeon quote?

I got a good snicker from the star and the pillow that was almost as large as "Mary." I enjoyed it.

wv: gumbhuma - the level below curmudgeon.

I thought Mr. Chantry is a former Christian school teacher. So I am quite surprised to learn that he hates children.

Kerry James Allen said...

Did someone ask for an apropo Spurgeon quote? "O man, God comes to you in the form of one like yourself!" and "If God loves us so much as to become man, then the blessings which He intends to bestow must be incalculable." Have a wonderful Christmas all!

Good to see New Zealand get a mention on the blog, though we live in paradise we are rather neglected down here!

LOL--Mary's HUGE tummy!

And Joseph's expression while listening to Mary's explanation was just priceless.

And I just love the giant star...with legs!! :D

Oh those poor children and their linguistic dyslexia - going through life not knowing which vowel to pronounce......

I've been great with child three times over Christmas. Helped me empathize about that horrible donkey ride...

That was the most adorable thing I've seen in a while. I'm telling Santa to find his biggest piece of coal for Mr. Crankypants Chantry's stocking forthwith.

I didn't know they had Christmas in Kiwi-land. It's summer down under, ain'it? How can you have Christmas without winter, and sleigh bells and snow and hot chocolate...?

Thanks Pastor Dan. Merry Christmas my friend!

Have a time of "comfort and joy"!
